There is an effort by the Democratic National Campaign Committee to gather names for a petition that will likely be given a quick shuffle to the trash bin by the Republican leadership of pro-wealthy GOP politicians, specifically Speaker John Boehner, Republican leader Eric Cantor, GOP Budget Chairman Paul Ryan, and the other House Republicans.
Don’t forget the name Grover Norquist who has twisted the arms of new GOP politicians into signing a no new tax promise.
Of course he has manipulated the newer GOP members as well as the older more experienced ones into this through the threat of loss of political support of their own party as well as outside support and the ruin of their political careers if they don’t comply.
But, I digress – this evil bastard is a whole other story.
On the other hand,
This is going to oil companies that are making a profit already. Sounds like a great deal for the oil barons but not so much for the tax payer.
Of course we will see how the bought and paid for Republicans will deal with any threat to cut one of the main sources of support to the GOP. A vote on this issue should be coming within the next few weeks.
President Obama feels that support should instead be given to develop alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and bio fuel.
Despite the failure of some energy companies that were supported with the $800 billion stimulus package the president sees a future that would be better with less reliance on foreign oil. A point that is hard to disagree with unless you have a vested interest in US oil company profits.
